Alam Group of Companies has been in existence for over half a century and is primarily involved in the manufacturing, building and construction industry. The Company was founded by Mr.Manzur Alam who is the Chairman of the Group. In 1965, Uganda Steel Windows Ltd was established under the Alam Group umbrella. The company was responsible for manufacturing metal doors, windows, louvers, shop front, slotted angles, hacksaw blades, wire ropes, welding rods, fencing, steel trunks, BRC and all kinds of furniture and steel pipes. The name Uganda Steel Windows Ltd was later changed to Casements (A) Ltd in 1967. Alam Group of companies has played its part in order to help the community and will continue to do so in the future. Some of the contributions made by the Alam Group of companies include: The sponsoring of sports events such as the Kampala Kids league (KKL), boxing events as well as numerous golf competitions. Golf is one of the sports that Alam Group has taken pleasure in sponsoring with the aim of improving golfing talent among the younger generation. The last big event sponsored by Alam Group was the 59th Uganda open which took place at the Kitante golf course in Kampala. Golfers from Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda participated in this great event. The tournament consisted of two categories, the main competition as well as the childrens competition. Alam Group has contributed towards helping the Muslim community with the construction of Mosques as well as sponsoring various other activities. Alam Group has sponsored various children's football league's such as the Kampala kids league (KKL) and the Nakivubo children's football club. Alam group has played an important role in promoting the children's sporting skills through the sponsorship of tournaments and sports wear. The national cable industry company "ENICAB" attached the former LTT to its assets in 1983 and gave birth, after its restructuring in 1997, to the CATEL company whose main activity was: Wire drawing, production & marketing of copper telecommunications cables. The company has been set up in 1997 as a separate entity from ENICAB, CAETL has been carrying out a business based on an activity for a period of 70 years at a time where telecommunication cables activity was born. The factory was created in 1928 by decision of the French company "Lignes Télégraphiques & Téléphoniques" of France. Its nationalization by the Algerian state took place in 1968. It was immediately attached to SNMETAL and then to SONELEC in 1969.
