Tobacco-rette Pvt Ltd is the sole distributor of Swedish Snus in Zimbabwe. Currently we are importing three flavours. These are Rapé, Menthol and Original.Snus is an alternate form of nicotine intake and is healthier than cigarettes to the body and to the environment. It is served in little sachets - "snubs" - inserted in the mouth between the gum and top lip, remaining there for as long as it is comfortable or required while the tobacco flavour is slowly absorbed.Snus has a slower nicotine absorption rate than cigarettes therefore one snub will last for up to an hour. Long time users find 20 minutes in the mouth gives adequate nicotine stimulation. One snub lasts twice as long as a cigarette and a can of 20 snubs costs about half the price of a packet of cigarettes in Zimbabwe. These can be used in conjunction with smoking, as a tool to quit smoking or as an alternative to smoking where smoking is not permitted. From a health aspect, some published advantages are:Swedish snus does not deposit tar into lungs or any of the poisonous gases, which occur when lighting tobacco.Swedish snus is user friendly and can be taken anywhere, which benefits passive smokersSwedish snus reduces the dependency on smoking.Swedish snus acts as a relaxing stimulant, as do tea and coffee.Swedish snus has been scrutinized by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, which came to the following conclusion: "the health risks associated with snuff are lower that those associated with smoking… Overall, therefore, there is scarcely any proof of a cancer risk. With regard to a possible link between snuff dipping and cardio-vascular disease, there are few studies and these have produced contradictory results.Swedish snus acts as an appetite suppressant, which, if you want to quit smoking, is good because you won't put on weight.Swedish snus does not cause discolouration to teeth or hands the way smoking does.Swedish snus is actually good for gums in that the salt content of the snub has a positive influence for healthy gums.Swedish snus will reduce tooth decay in that the manufacturing process creates an alkaline product, which counter-acts the acids that cause tooth decay. It should be noted that nicotine is an addictive stimulant and should not be introduced to persons under the age of 18.

Zimbabwe is one of the world's leading competitive producers of high quality tobacco. The tobacco industry plays a vital role in the economy in terms of foreign currency generation and employment creation. Tobacco contributes about a third of the total foreign currency earnings of the country and directly employs more than one million people, and many more in the down stream industries.Tobacco is grown in "15 districts" that are categorised into slow, medium and fast growing areas. The largest hectarage under tobacco ever attained in Zimbabwe was 92 000 hectares in the late 1990s, while the highest ever achieved production of flue cured tobacco was 237 million kg in 2000. There has been, however, a steady decline in both hectarage and yields since then to as low as 55 million kg in the 2005/06 tobacco season. There are concerted efforts from all stakeholders to rebound the tobacco industry, and in the 2006/2007 season 75 million kg are expected. Tobacco is marketed through the dual marketing system, that is, the contract and auction systems. The contract system was recently introduced to attract more contractors and investors as a strategy to reverse the current trend in tobacco production. The importance of the tobacco industry to the Zimbabwe economy led to the establishment of the Tobacco Research Board. The Tobacco Research Board is a statutory body re-constituted under the Tobacco Research Act of 1950, and is mandated to direct, control and conduct research on tobacco. It also undertakes both long-term research and short-term advisory and support services on request from growers and merchants. The TRB provides various agro-based commercial services and products, including contract research. The TRB is funded predominantly from a levy from growers and tobacco merchants, grants from government, and from the sale of commercial products and services. Our VisionTo be the recognized leader in agro-based research and analytical services. Our MissionThe Tobacco Research Board continues to build on its international reputation to provide cost-effective services that add value to client operations while maximizing stakeholder returns.Core Values Innovation Integrity Individual Respect Expertise Excellence
