Acton Publishers was registered in Kenya in 1992, as a firm focusing on academic and specialized publishing with a particular concern for African scholarship. The first set of publications were on Christian Theology, but later included other disciplines including humanities, social sciences, environment and educational management. It was established to meet the needs of specialized authors and readers that were not being served adequately by large commercial publishing firms in Africa.  The founder, Prof. J.N.K. Mugambi, is himself a prolific author, with extensive and intensive experience in publishing, both in Africa and elsewhere. ARC-Kenya focuses on social justice, empowerment and economic independence.   ARC-Kenya promotes sharing experiences from our national, political and so cio-cultural contexts, in order to create institutional collaboration and learning processes between our partners, within our organizations, and in our network.   The Fab Lab program is part of the MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA) which broadly explores how the content of information relates to its physical representation. ARO Fablab Kenya West will was launched in September 2008. Three students: Vigdis, Apondi and Tom, all from ARC Kenya are now studying at the Fablab Norway to learn the basics and the tools in the lab that will easen their work when ARO Fablab Kenya West is finally lauched.    ARO Fablab Kenya West is mainly an educational center and anybody who feels like using the lab will do that without restrictions unless otherwise.

The Agri Co-Operative Training and Consultancy Services Ltd. ATC has been registered as a Company Limited in September 2007 and is fully owned by the Co-operative College of Kenya. Together with Kenya Agriculture Commodity Exchange, KACE, a private company distributing market information to Kenyan farmer, the Co-operative College of Kenya, with the support of the development partners, DED, HSS, GTZ and ACDI VOCA started the transition of a department of the Co-operative College into a private training and consultancy firm. Legal difficulties prolonged the process for more than 3 years, but in 2007 ATC was finally registered as a company. Since that time ATC has delivered more than 70 training courses to farmers, their organization and extension staff in the agricultural and co-operative sector in Kenya. The goal of approaching farming as a business is to increase the incomes of the rural poor, or to put more money in the farmers' pockets and into the rural economy. This will enable them improve their standards of living in terms of housing, food security and basic household needs, while contributing to the larger goal of making the transition from subsistence to a cash economy, or the creation of wealth.
