SAFAL was established to consolidate the operations of several allied companies in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Africa, Zambia, Angola and Malawi. The group has Galvanizing lines in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania as well as Aluminium-Zinc and Colour-coating lines in Kenya, and was the first organization to implement the Aluminium-Zinc coating technology in Africa.MRM was established in Kenya in 1961 as Mabati Ltd to produce galvanized roofing sheets. As a step towards backward integration, MRM set up a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) at Mariakani in 1982. In the same year the company was renamed Mabati Rolling Mills Ltd. In 1990 the Colour Coating Line (CCL) was commissioned in Nairobi where MRM has its head office.MRM put up a highly advanced Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL) and started producing superior Galvanized Steel Coils in 2000 and 55% Aluminium-Zinc coated Steel Coils in 2001 making MRM the sole manufacturer in Africa. A further backward integration saw the commissioning of the Pickling Line in 2005.MRM is the producer of Cold Rolled Steel Coils and Sheets, Galvanized Steel Coils and Sheets, 55% Aluminium-Zinc coated Steel Coils and Sheets, Pre-painted Steel Coils and Sheets and other roofing accessories. The range of roofing products are currently sold under the brand names of SIMBA, DUMUZAS, GALSHEET RESINCOT, VERSATILE and SAFLOK700. Locally these products are distributed through appointed dealers and several service centres throughout the country. MRM controls over 50% of the local market share. MRM products are widely accepted in the export market, having exported to over 50 countries worldwide in Africa, Asia, Europe and America. MRM products conform to both local and international standards.
