The Botswana Insurance Company's story is one rooted in local ownership and investment since its incorporation on the 12th August 1975. It was for the purpose of transacting general and life assurance business. The original shareholders were Botswana Development Corporation holding 51% and J.H. Minet & Company Limited of London, holding 49%. Over the years the chain of events has been; 1984: Botswana Development Corporation sold 24% of its holdings to Sechaba Investment Trust. 1985: J.H. Minet sold its 49% holding to St Paul (UK) Ltd, a subsidiary company of The St Paul Incorporation of Minnesota USA. 1991: A new company, Botswana General Insurance Limited (BGIL) focusing on short term insurance was formed following the restructuring of Botswana Insurance Company to comply with The Botswana Insurance act of 1987. Botswana Life Insurance Limited was incepted. Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited was listed on The Botswana Stock Exchange as a holding company for BGIL and BLIL. Share holding stayed unchanged as it was in BIC but subsequent listing of BIHL saw shares as; 25% held by general public, BDC 17.85%, Sechaba 16.20%, St Paul 30.94% and Southern Life of South Africa 10.01%. resulting in 60% of BIHL held by Botswana public, private companies and individuals.1993: BIHL acquired majority control of IGI Botswana Holding Limited making it the largest general insurance and assure in Botswana. 1995: BDC divested its interest in BIHL. 1996: Southern Life sold its share holding to African Life Assurance of South Africa. 1998: BGIL was sold out of the holding company and became a wholly owned subsidiary company of St Paul (UK) Limited. Its name was changed to Botswana Insurance Company. 2003: Teledimo (Pty) Ltd bought BIC from St Paul. Zimnat Lion Insurance, a Zimbabwean based insurance company was awared the management contract, providing the technical expertise, strategy and management to BIC.  Following this tremendous development, BIC aspires to be the insurer of first choice in the market it operates in and to also provide services that surpass the expectations of its clientele.

The company has portfolio of retail commercial, industrial and residential properties. The company's strategy is, through portfolio growth and diversification, become a leading company in the property market not only in Botswana but also internationally. The Company measure's its success by increase in share price, increase in return on investment to unitholders and increase in value of property portfolio held by the company. Khumo Property Asset Management Company was appointed as asset manager effective from November 1 2005 to attend to asset management and administration of Turnstar's assets including Game City Mall in Gaborone, Botswana; Nzano Shopping Centre in Francistown, Botswana; and BIFM portfolio which Turnstar acquired effective fom November 1 2005. In March 2011, Turnstar Holdings internalized its operations. On August 1 2011, Jacob Motlhabane was appointed Managing Director of Turnstar Holdings.

Whilst at our lodges the focus is on game viewing. Safari activities generally start early in the morning. All our lodges have plunge pools with sun decks for guests to enjoy whilst they are not on activities. Our lodges are also equipped with well-stocked libraries and comfortable lounges to relax in. Having been established in the country since 1982, we are fortunate to have many long serving staff. All our guides are local Batswana, recruited from nearby villages. Our longest serving guide, John Kata of Camp Okavango, has guided within the Desert & Delta Safaris circuit since the company's founding.

The Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) was established in 2000 to engage in business development activities - thereby increasing cargo for ports and corridors linked to it, and to engage in the facilitation of corridor and infrastructure development. The Walvis Bay Corridors are an integrated system of well-maintained tarred roads and rail networks - accommodating all modes of transport - from the Port of Walvis Bay via the Trans-Kalahari, Trans-Caprivi, Trans-Cunene and Trans-Oranje Corridors providing landlocked SADC countries access to transatlantic markets. Cargo offloaded at the Port of Walvis Bay is handled with state-of-the-art machinery and record turnaround processing time. The Port is congestion-free and its facilities are of world-class standard, which ensures that cargo is handled reliably and safely. Cargo then makes its way from the Port along one of the Corridors across Namibia and into neighbouring SADC countries. The Trans-Kalahari Corridor links the Port of Walvis Bay to Gaborone and Gauteng in South Africa. From there, this Corridor links with the Maputo Corridor on the east coast of southern Africa. The Trans-Caprivi Corridor accesses the landlocked countries of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Trans-Cunene Corridor extends through northern Namibia into southern Angola, and the Trans-Oranje Corridor links the Port of Lüderitz with the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. The Walvis Bay Corridor Group's main organisational strength is its unique public-private partnership (PPP) set-up of transport and logistics stakeholders from both the public and private sector. The partnership allows for the pooling of resources, expertise and authorities from both the regulators and the operators, who together form an integrated transport and logistics service for potential customers. Due to the Group's constitution as a PPP, it is able to lean on the public sector for advice and action on issues such as customs, transport regulation and infrastructure development, while the private sector can focus on business development such as marketing and making practical operational proposals and logistics solutions. Both arms provide input into developing human resources, the institutions themselves, and the associated infrastructure.  The Walvis Bay Corridor Group has a branch office that facilitates business development in Lusaka, Zambia, and is investigating the feasibility of establishing other branch offices in Botswana and South Africa. The Group Strategic Plan 2005–2010 focuses its efforts on increasing cargo volumes for the Port of Walvis Bay and the Walvis Bay Corridors, as well as on enhancing the competitiveness of the Corridors. In support of this, the Group established a Project Development and Funding Portfolio to identify, formulate and manage Corridor projects, and to mobilise international support and funding.
