Sechaba Consultants is a completely indigenous Lesotho consulting company, established in 1989. The company works in a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, education, energy, environment, gender, health, project management, private sector development, and water supply. Regardless of the sector, the Company is fully committed to ensuring that the views and aspirations of ordinary people are made apparent to policy makers and planners.  Sechaba Healthcare is currently providing services to over 55 employer groups, with a member base of 3500 principal members plus an additional dependent base of a further 3000 lives which makes us the largest medical scheme broker in Lesotho. We put our continued growth and success down to our commitment to the local market, our continued assistance in the development of better products and our knowledge and understanding of the healthcare needs in Lesotho. To achieve this, the Company deploys diverse qualitative and quantitative research methods, ranging from large-scale household surveys to in-depth case studies. In 1993 Sechaba Consultants joined a network of small research companies in South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland and Namibia that are engaged in similar and complementary work. The objective was to move towards a more regional approach. This has significantly increased the Company's capacity to provide services in and outside Lesotho as it can now draw from this wider pool of professionals.    Sechaba believes in the value of long-term research and has been involved a number of such initiatives, including the Poverty Mapping Exercise (1990-2000), the Southern African Migration Project (with Queen's University, since 1996) and the Afrobarometer project (with IDASA, since 1999). Since 1997, the Company has worked closely with British and US NGOs that are assisting small scale farmers in East and West Africa to develop intensive organic farms for food security and income generation.    This has involved training the local NGOs and CBOs that work directly with the farmers concerned. Sechaba has developed monitoring and evaluation systems that make it possible to trace the long-term progress of the farmers. In 2004 Sechaba became involved in Poverty and Social Impact Assessments (PSIAs) on behalf the World Bank in Mauritania (mining sector) and Madagascar (health sector) that were to run over a two year period.    Again, this has involved building the capacity of local stakeholders to undertake surveys, analyse the results and dialogue with policy makers. Sechaba also played a leading role in the finalisation of Lesotho's Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper. A significant part of Sechaba's work has involved determining people's attitudes towards public utilities, such as water, electricity and telecommunications, as well as towards Government services such as revenue collection.    This has entailed large scale 'willingness and ability to pay' surveys in both rural and urban areas. Sechaba has been involved in numerous environmental impact assessments which have been mandatory in Lesotho since 2001. The Company has specialised in conducting the Social Impact Assessment and Public Participation activities that are critical components of an EIA.    These have included assessing the likely impacts of large scale infrastructure projects in the water and electricity sectors, as well as mines and industrial estates. In 2006 one of the company directors (David Hall) took charge of a small social impact assessment team working under the Mekong River Commission in South East Asia.    In all, over the last 18 years the Company has been involved in a more than 200 studies, project planning and capacity building exercises.

Teakland Windows & Doors is a Zimbabwean company operating from Bulawayo, which is situated in the western half of the country near to the vast forestry reserves where the sustainable timber resources are procured. This custom joinery firm has its roots in a hardwood conversion business, founded in 1980.    The manufacture of high quality wooden doors, windows and furniture followed naturally from this foundation of sawmilling and kiln-drying. The company is owned and managed by its two directors who have controlled the business since 1985.    They direct a complement of nearly 200 employees, who take pride in the company's combination of modern business practice with traditional carpentry methods. As master carpenters since 1990, the company and its products have become known throughout the sub-continent. Approximately 60% of the company's output is exported to South Africa, firstly through a distributor in Gauteng and then, in order to cope with the demand from the opulent residential market in that area, a branch office was opened in Cape Town. Exports have also been successful to the United States of America and to Europe.    The factory has its own sawmill and kiln-drying facilities. This hands-on control enables us to select the best available grades of timber for the manufacturing process. Many of the components utilised through the factory have been composited to give extra strength and stability to the wood. This meticulous procedure enhances the elegance of the final product, and reduces the wastage of a valuable resource.    Teakland Windows & Doors believes that only the finest craftsmanship is worthy of the beauty inherent in every piece of Zimbabwean Teak. Lobels is a well established Zimbabwean company, manufacturing a range of quality food products. With a modern factory in Bulawayo and a large distribution depot in the capital, Harare, its products have been on wholesalers and supermarket shelves in Zimbabwe for generations. Lobels was recently awarded the Zim trade Exporters Award for "Outstanding Performance in the Processed Foods Sector". Mr O. Mpofu from the Ministry of Industry and International Trade and Commerce presented the award to Mr A. Dinhidza from Lobels. Over 50 years ago Lobels Bakery was established By Mr. W. Lobel and Mr. B.E. Lobel both of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Before then, early pioneer bakeries had produced bread by hand. Lobels saw the need for automation and after substantial investments introduced modern production-line baking equipment. The resulting competitive prices made bread a staple item for the city's growing population. Biscuit production began shortly thereafter in 1954. The range of biscuits grew rapidly as production became more automated. From the original plain range of biscuits Lobels developed a Cream range, then a Chocolate-coated range and a Savoury selection was added as the company continued to anticipate consumers' wishes. Today, biscuits and sweets are the company's core business in Zimbabwe, and are exported throughout the region and increasingly, abroad. Packaging quality has also kept pace with consumer expectations, from the early biscuit-tin to today's gravure-printed lines. 2000 saw the introduction of a wide range of confectionery, sweet and chocolate lines, which have grown exponentially since 2000 and now contribute significantly to our profitability. The operation, employing 600 staff, is still a family business. Today Mr. John Lobel heads the company and is committed to carrying out the traditions associated with the Lobels "Quality Promise".
